The first half of the album acts as an experimental piece, as they delve into sides they havent. But when I Listened to it.
The SuburbsMusically an outlier for the next album, but lyrically it feels very nostalgic. Yes.
However, overall when it's good it's very good and moments like the crowd sounds at the beginning of "Here Comes the Night Time" are what make the album.
Disclaimer to say I don't think any of these albums are bad; on the contrary I believe them all to be pretty spectacular in their own rights. Again, the concept of this album is incredible, the idea of the modern age reflected through pre-contemporary art, and how that plays into our societal roles and our digital world, is extremely timely and powerful. 3. The SuburbsNew sound, new rules. Nor the second. My ranking: 1= The Suburbs. A song that perfectly encapsulates a beguiling album. FuneralWonderful, mesmeric lyrics, almost matched by their melodies. There is so much nostalgia and tragedy and emotion conveyed in the music that it makes you feel that too.
Feel the exact same about all of this. It feels like sacrilege to put Funeral at the bottom considering it's such a great album and loved by so many but I earnestly do believe they've only improved since then.
A little heavy handed sometimes with the angry outward focused lyrics, but a nice maturation from Funeral. But ive grew to love this record due to my personal connection with leaving the horrible religion of mormonism in my youth, and made a really strong connection to this album due to Win and Wills past with mormonism. Even The Suburbs, an album that often focuses on the low points of living in suburbia and growing up, still has an underlying optimism that this album just doesn't. Just go back to something closer to Funeral and The Suburbs next time :). I'm not saying that to be edgy. Neon BibleAfter a thoughtful start this swells into a stunning acoustic crescendo.
I was hesitant at first but it won me over. 2. Dark, moody, low key: these are words that I would never use to describe any of their other albums. ReflektorSelf-alienation within a context of rock and roll?
A little late: The Suburbs (10) Reflektor (9.5) Funeral (9.5) Neon Bible (8.5) Everything Now (6.5). I mean, There's Disco (Reflektor), Alt Rock (Normal Person), Dance Music (It's Never Over (Oh Orpheus)) and Many More. The Suburbs.
At the place in my life I'm at right now, the message of Everything Now and the themes and concepts really struck me hardcore and I have connected with this album both lyrically and sonically on a level I haven't with nearly any other album in my life. I fell in Love with it.
