(That is, that they have all the elements the Mac needs to make use of them.). At my office we have a server with all of the fonts we own so when I want to use a font, I drag it over to my desktop and then install it by dragging the files over to my FontExplorer library.

This is probably a very simple fix. Fonts are not installed into individual programs, they're installed into font folders provided by OS X.

Do you get any error messages? Font Book will not install new fonts... Locate the font or fonts that you wish to disable. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Is it true copy and paste is better than backup feature ? From the sounds of it, you don't have the whole font. You have to convert it to a Windows TrueType font, as the Apple TrueType can only be used on Mac devices. I launch FontBook, select File->Add Font and select a font folder.
