I'm a sucker for reflections rendered through solitude. Of course I wanted to see what gems of wisdom he may have learned. The founder of the Momofuku restaurant group, Chang is a chef, TV... To see what your friends thought of this book, The Point of Vanishing: A Memoir of Two Years in Solitude. A quick read, that I really liked for the first half. The title of Axelrod's book is perfect because it conveys the two thrusts of the book. At one point in the t.v. Let’s hope he doesn’t get rolled over again. ( Log Out / I just don’t agree with it. Why does Lewis think that is the best way to end it? Suspecting retaliation, the Rattenbury’s are the first to be questioned and each appear to have an alibi at the time of the crime. I liked this book so much that I actually wrote a formal review of it for The Rumpus. I can't quite put my finger on it, but his writing recalled that of Karl Ove Knausgaaard, whom I also enjoy. Some of the reviewers here have suggested that this is no big deal and because the author was a 'privileged' student at Harvard it means even less. by Beacon Press. It was interesting to read about his experiences, and to speculate whether he’d have gone through that very difficult and dark period in his life had he not gone experienced the injury. Did you ever start reading less and less pages of a book because you didn't want it to end? The opening and closing music is the show’s theme. It struck me that this is really the memoir of a quite young person, a man looking for himself, which is actually pretty typical of someone in his twenties. Arrogant towards others. The painting is featured in the "Point of Vanishing" episode of the British TV series Lewis. The book was also very self-important. I was far more confused than entertained. Great facts, details, explanations, opinions. When someone loses something that is so much a part of how they identify themselves, and how they perceive themselves and the world around them, such as ones eye sight rediscovering nature without the distractions of the modern world, and rediscovering ones more primal needs, rediscovering what it truly is to be human can help one find a way to reconnect with the world and hone in the other senses to readapt ones perception of themselves and the world. That being said, I wasn't sure what to expect from his book.
My only disappointment in the book was the title.
