Geeqie, known as GQView up to 2010, is a really nice, easy to use and powerful image viewer. My guess is that feh makes no attempt retrive the exif information either. It was forked from GQview. Strips any metadata that various applications may have left in the image. My problem is similar to, but not identical to insanemal's, because I am not using testing. The reason for this is that geeqie development is poor: it is not even possible to submit a bug report (you need to be "authorized" to do so), and old bugs still remain.
